Best Practices

Group Riding Safety

RYC rides as a club. These are the core practices we follow to keep every rider safe on group rides.

01

Ride in Formation

Use a staggered formation — the lead rider takes the left third of the lane, the second rider takes the right third, one second behind. This maximizes visibility and reaction time.

02

Pre-Ride Inspection

Before every ride, check your T-CLOCS: Tires, Controls, Lights, Oil, Chassis, and Stands. A 5-minute check can prevent a serious incident.

03

Gear Up Every Ride

Full gear every time — helmet, jacket, gloves, boots, and pants. No exceptions. ATGATT: All The Gear, All The Time.

04

Communicate with Hand Signals

Know and use standard motorcycle hand signals for turns, stops, hazards, and speed changes. Clear communication keeps the whole group safe.

05

Ride Your Own Ride

Never ride beyond your skill level to keep up with the group. A good club waits. Your safety is more important than pace.

06

Designate a Sweep Rider

The last rider in the group is the sweep — experienced, with a first aid kit, and responsible for ensuring no one is left behind.
